Chippendale Bureau Bookcase Ca 1760 made in sep 2008
An exceptionally fine bureau bookcase from the Chippendale period, Made from stained pear, its
proportions are perfectly divided between the writing section and draws below. The bookcase is
crowned with a broken pediment with a central urn on a pedestal. The astragal doors are made with
.2mm thick glass, The doors enclose three adjustable bookshelves.
The bureau has a fitted interior with eight dovetail draws with loop handles, a central cupboard. and a
leather writing desk with 23 ct gold tooling. The four main draws have dovetail joints, panel bottoms,
beading, imitation locks and rococo cast brass handles and escutcheons. The whole piece comes
apart just as the original, to make it easier to move.
There are several new developments featured on this bureau.
Scale carving on the pediment and cornice.
The two doors are made with .2mm thick glass with astragal moulding made to look like individual
pieces of glass.
23 ct gold tooling on the leather writing desk.

Chippendale chair
The chair is based on Thomas Chippendales original drawings, with a highly carved back and ball
and claw feet. It has over rail silk upholstery and brass pins.
