Louis XIV gilt armchairs circa 1675 made in 2018
This is the first time I have made a full gilt piece. Using the traditional water gilding method, it is a long
process but the results are very good.
The chairs are made with a core of boxwood, layers of gesso, layers of bole and two layers of gold leaf.
The fabric is from Susan Bembridge design.
If you are interested in trying gilding I can highly recommend it.
The “ Practical Gilding” by Peter & An Mactaggart is a good place to start.
