18th century Dressing mirror
Made from stained pear, three dovetail draws with turned brass knobs, scale banding made from
ebony/holly and a tilting mirror.
The glass mirror is hand made 0.2mm thick. As far as I know it is the thinnest glass mirror in the world.
Glass Mirror
One of the major developments over the past ten years is making my own glass mirror.
For years I have been looking for thin mirror. The thinnest I found was 2.3mm thick, this is fine when it
is possible to hide the thickness, in cabinets or wall mirrors. but with stand alone mirrors it spoils the
look of the piece.
I found glass 0.2mm thick around two years ago and a company that sells the chemicals for making mirror
just before Christmas last year. The quality of the mirror is not as good as modern mirror but it is still
very good and will get better with practice.
It is now possible to make several pieces of furniture that would not look right with a thicker mirror.
There are alternatives, polished steel or mirrored plastic. They are quite good but they scratch very
easily.
These are the first pieces I have made using this mirror. Each piece is signed, dated, and numbered.
