Chippendale tea table with open ball and talon feet 1760 made in 2009 The Chippendale tea table made by John Goddard is one of the most important examples of American furniture that has ever been made. The legs have peaked knees that are covered in low relief palmetto and leaf carving. The cabriole legs end in rare open talon claw and ball feet, enhancing the tension of the form by leaving space not only between the talons, but also above the ball. This table was originally owned by Nicholas Brown one of the most prominent and influential men in colonial America. It was sold at Sotheby's in January 2005 for over $8.4 m. $ 3.4m over the estimate. You can see a very good description and pictures of the original by clicking here.
