George II card table and two chairs circa 1750-55
A pair of George II armchairs c1750 probably supplied to William, 2nd Earl of Bessborough (1793)
for Ingess Abbey, Kent.
Sold again at Christie's New York in 1987.
Made to the Chinese taste, the height of popularity at this period. The chairs are finely carved with
pierced splat back with pagoda crests repeated in the arms.
The seat frame has blind fretwork decoration, cluster column legs and open c-scroll brackets.
