Oeben commode circa 1760
The original commode was made for Madame de Pompadour in 1760 by jean-François Oeben.
It now lives at the Getty museum in LA. After 246 years the sun has faded the colours, this is
why I decided to make it in the original wood to see what it would have looked like, after all there were
no cameras back then and did not appear in any paintings at the time.
It is decorated in a mosaic pattern with three colour cubes made from tulipwood, kingwood, and
green stained sycamore with a boxwood and amaranth border.
The two centre draws have an interlocking circle pattern ( called four leaves ) made from tulipwood
and grey stained sycamore with an interlaced border made from stained maple burr, boxwood and
Amaranth.
There are 55 ormolu mounts, 31 are cast in bronze, 24 are cut, and each piece is gold
plated. With a rams head each side and a face at the bottom.

Dimensions Height 7.6cm, Width 12.2cm, Depth 3.8cm. £ 5400. sold
